This is the peak getting ridiculous. Newton and Einstein, we were told, don't
know physics. Everything is there in the Holy Vedas and the West had simply
copied it. And we wonder how many more monkey shows are in the offing in the

‘NaMo Waves’ & Kauravas as Test Tube Babies: ISC Sees Some Gems
THE QUINT1 DAY AGOINDIA2 min read
A delegate at the 106th Indian Science Congress on Friday, 4 January, said that
modern physics as we know it will be destroyed and will soon be replaced by a
'new understanding' of physics.
And once that happens, the world will know 'gravitational forces as 'Narendra
Modi waves' and the Gravitational Lensing Effect as 'Harsh Vardhan effect', the
man claimed.

That's not all. The man in question, one Kannan Jegathala Krishnan, also
claimed that both Issac Newton and Albert Einstein had little understanding of
physics.
According to The Print, Krishnan said,
“Newton was not able to understand gravitational repulsive force, which is why
he was not able to answer most questions related to gravity. His calculations
were perfect but there was a problem in his theoretical physics. I have been
able to solve these theories.”And about Einstein, this is what Krishnan, who is
a senior reseach scientist at the World Community Service Centre in Tamil
Nadu's Aliyar, said:
“Space is heavier than the Sun and every other planet and hence compresses all
the planets. Equal pressure is applied to them, which is why they are moving.
The quality of space is self-compressive, which is something that Newton and
Einstein could not understand. Einstein did not guide the world in the correct
way.”Needless to say, Krishnan's audacious remarks were not spared on Twitter.

‘Kauravas Are Test Tube Babies’Krishnan was not the only one to make such
overreaching claims at the 'Science' Congress.
Andhra University Vice Chancellor G Nageshwar Rao claimed Kauravas were born
due to stem cell and test tube technologies and India possessed this knowledge
thousands of years ago.
Lord Rama used 'astras' and 'shastras' (weapons) which would chase targets and
after hitting it they would come back, Rao said at a presentation.
“Everybody wonders and nobody believes, how come Gandhari gave birth to 100
children. How is it humanly possible? Can a woman give birth to 100 children in
one lifetime.”Again, Rao's comments were subject to Twitter's deepest scrutiny,
with many lamenting at the purpose of a Science Congress in light of such
remarks.

Isn't obvious that the YPG has never identified Assad as the source of

The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) announced that it has
agreed with the Syrian regime to form joint committees and negotiate
“ending the war and creating a road map leading to a democratic,
decentralized Syria.”

This announcement comes on the heel of a visit by the SDC to the Syrian
capital Damascus to seek a deal with President Bashar al-Assad to
preserve their autonomy..

Salih Muslim a leading official in the US-backed SDC forces considered
the visit of the council to Damascus as a test of the Syrian regime's

Washington Post, January 6, 2019
A French blogger brought down by his own tweets wants a second chance
By James McAuley

PARIS — Two years ago, Mehdi Meklat was a prince among this city’s
intellectual aristocrats, celebrated as a precocious thinker and an
important minority voice.

Just 24, he was a star blogger for the French newspaper Libération, a
frequent guest on national radio programs and the co-author of a
critically acclaimed novel. He stood out not just for his age but for
his perspective. France has few Arab media personalities — despite being
home to one of Europe’s largest Arab populations. Meklat was a rare
anointed commentator from the “banlieues,” the multiethnic suburbs just
outside the French capital that often feel worlds away.

But in February 2017, journalists uncovered anti-Semitic and homophobic
tweets on an account belonging to Meklat, and his meteoric rise was
quickly overshadowed by a staggering fall.

Now Meklat is back, attempting to clear his name. Last month, he
published a book, “Autopsie,” which contends that young people are drawn
to social media without fully understanding the consequences it might
have on their lives. And he has launched a full-fledged apology
campaign, making the rounds on all the major talk shows to explain
himself to a highly skeptical public. Central to his argument: Second
chances are rarely given to people of color, to whom extra scrutiny
always applies.

“Often — always — I say that I’m sorry. Because it’s true. My apologies
are extremely sincere. But sometimes, I feel that there’s still a
suspicion,” he said in an interview with The Washington Post. “In
France, I think that essentially it’s different for someone who’s called
Medhi to say he’s sorry.”

Some young people of color are national heroes in France. Among them is
Kylian Mbappé, the 19-year-old star of the French national team that won
the 2018 World Cup. Souvenir jerseys bearing his name are ubiquitous.

But it’s true that other young minorities have been scrutinized out of
public life. A prime example is Mennel Ibtissem, a 22-year-old singer
who dazzled with a rendition of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” on France’s
version of “The Voice” competition. But viewers scrolled through her
social media history and found comments that appeared to excuse the July
2016 terrorist attack in Nice, when a man drove a truck into a crowded
promenade. Under pressure, Ibtissem withdrew from the competition.

Meklat signs his new book at the headquarters of the Grasset publishing
house. (Olivier Laban-Mattei/Myop for The Washington Post)

In his book, Meklat contends that young people are often drawn to social
media without understanding the consequences it might have on their
lives. (Olivier Laban-Mattei/Myop for The Washington Post)
In Meklat’s case, at issue are nearly two dozen tweets he posted under
the name of “Marcelin Deschamps,” which he says was inspired by the Dada
artist Marcel Duchamp. Ostensibly to parody the average
lower-middle-class French voter, Meklat used the account to attack any
number of public targets, but the remarks against gays and Jews elicited
the most outrage.

In one of these, Marcelin Deschamps calls for a physical attack on Alain
Finkielkraut, a conservative Jewish intellectual and the son of
Polish-Jewish refugees who escaped the Holocaust.

“They should have broken his legs,” Meklat wrote, “that son of a whore.”

As part of his apology tour, Meklat called Finkielkraut and asked to see
him. “I was touched by that,” Finkielkraut said in an interview. He
invited Meklat for tea and was curious to hear what he had to say.

“We talked. He seemed engaged in the work of redemption, and he
apologized for the extremely violent, and notably anti-Semitic tweets.
But I don’t know if it was sincere or a kind of opportunism,”
Finkielkraut said, noting that he disapproved of how Meklat presented
himself as a victim. “He was between penitence and accusation.”

For some, especially in the Jewish community, Meklat embodies what in
France is called “the new anti-Semitism,” a hatred of Jews particularly
among immigrants and their offspring. Twelve Jews have been killed in
France since 2003, more than any other country in Europe. In most of
those cases, the suspects were young men of Arab or West African descent.

“[Meklat] incarnates a part of the mentality of the difficult
neighborhoods, where there is a strong strain of anti-Semitism and an
obsession with Jews,” said Noémie Halioua, a French journalist and
author of a book on one of the recent anti-Semitic killings, in which
she called the likes of Meklat a

A minor but not insignificant point is that Rudaw is *not* a “pro-YPG”
source. It’s a media company based in the Iraqi KRG and close to the KDP
leadership, bitterly hostile to the Rojava revolution. On that basis Rudaw
has had some problems operating in Rojava. While this report may be
accurate Rudaw won’t necessarily give any objective accounts of the balance
of opinion.

In any case some compromise with the regime appears inevitable. As it is
for the remnant rebel forces. Comrades seem to forget this is how virtually
all struggles end up this side of world socialism, the balance of forces
determining how good or bad each compromise is, and how well each side is
equipped for the next stage. Even the left taking power in one area means
ongoing compromises with capitalist forces, claims of an Apoist goal of
instant (and presumably autarkic) anarcho-communism notwithstanding.

NY Times, Jan. 6, 2019
Ishmael Reed’s Play Challenging ‘Hamilton’ Will Get Reading
By Sopan Deb

“Hamilton” has become an industry-changing phenomenon since its Broadway
premiere in 2015. But the show has its detractors: One manifestation of
this criticism will take the stage this weekend in New York.

It is a reading of a play by Ishmael Reed, “The Haunting of Lin-Manuel
Miranda,” which will be held at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe on the Lower
East Side and will run through Jan. 7.

The play, directed by Rome Neal, will take aim at what Mr. Reed — a
prominent and prolific satirical writer who was awarded a MacArthur
Grant in 1998 — believes are inaccuracies with “Hamilton.” Some
academics have long said the show glosses over the role of slavery of
the period and have criticized the way Alexander Hamilton is presented.
Mr. Neal said in a phone interview that Mr. Reed began writing his play
at the beginning of last year.

“He was talking about this subject a lot: ‘How they could put up a play
about Hamilton and call him an abolitionist when he was a slave
trader?’” Mr. Neal said.

The play itself is described as being about “a playwright who is misled
by a historian of white history into believing that Alexander Hamilton
was an abolitionist,” and his path to learning Hamilton’s true story.

The work also criticizes “Hamilton” for not including Native Americans
and white indentured servants. The plot educates an actor playing
Lin-Manuel Miranda, the creator of “Hamilton.” Mr. Reed, two-time
National Book Award finalist, will take part in the readings playing the
role of Mr. Miranda’s agent. Mr. Neal said they are trying to raise
money for the play to be staged at the Nuyorican once the readings are
finished.

Last week, “Hamilton” took in a record $4 million in box-office sales on
Broadway. At the Kennedy Center last month, the musical received one of
its prestigious honors, the first time the institution gave one for a show.

Mr. Reed’s issues with the musical track with those of academics who
have criticized “Hamilton,” like Annette Gordon-Reed (no relation), a
professor of history and law at Harvard, who has spoken out against the
portrayal of Hamilton as an uncompromising abolitionist. (Ms.
Gordon-Reed is now consulting with the creators of “Hamilton” about the
historical accuracy of a traveling exhibition the show is planning.)

It’s not clear whether Mr. Miranda is aware of “The Haunting of
Lin-Manuel Miranda,” and a spokesman for “Hamilton” declined to comment.

Ocalan argues for building "a system of democratic self-organisation in
Kurdistan with the features of a confederation". This would be a "non-state"
form of organisation.

http://links.org.au/understanding-abdullah-ocalan-political-thought-kurdistan-womans-revolution-democratic-confederalism

But he also says: "It is not realistic ... to go for the immediate abolition
of the state. This does not mean we have to take it as it is ... The
institutional state needs to be subject to democratic changes".

Hence the PKK has been willing to negotiate with the Turkish government,
seeking a peace deal that would include recognition of Kurdish identity,
cultural and language rights, freedom of expression and organisation, and
democratic elections. Ocalan himself was involved in negotiations with
government officials, while still in prison. The government broke off these
negotiations.

Similarly the PYD and the autonomous administration of northeastern Syria have
been willing to negotiate with the Assad regime. Not surprisingly, these
negotiations have failed to reach agreement on democratising Syria.

However the pressures on the autonomous administration are increasing. Turkey
has invaded Afrin and is threatening to invade Manbij and the rest of
northeastern Syria.

The presence of US troops has up to now deterred a Turkish invasion. But Trump
has promised to withdraw them, though the timing remains unclear.

The threat of a Turkish invasion might force the northeast Syria administration
to accept a bad deal with Russia and Assad. But this has not happened yet.

So far the only thing that has happened is that some Syrian and Russian troops
have moved to Arima to deter a Turkish attack on Manbij.

Probably Assad's motivation in sending the troops is a fear that Turkey will
permanently occupy a large part of northern Syria (like Israel's occupation of
the Golan heights).

But Assad is obviously not a reliable ally for a democratic movement.

Note, however, that the schism is not really about Palestine, but about the
role of the far-right vis-a-vis Diaspora Jews. The author is basically
saying that Trump and Netanyahu are complicit in promoting anti-Semitism
outside of Palestine/Israel.

While Jews in America might perceive anti-Semitism being on the rise (which
doesn't say much given that it is a practically non-existent phenomenon
among mainstream American society), the same paranoia applies equally to
Jewish community perceptions about, for example, the BDS movement (which
also doesn't threaten Jews). So the schism with Israel won't necessarily
mean a groundswell of support for Palestine. There is very little evidence
of rising anti-Semitism in America, and in fact the hate crime statistics
posted (which are about as meaningful as "terrorism" statistics in that
they measure the actions of fringe individuals rather than those with
institutional power) are misleading

.

I also caution anyone who sees changing perceptions among Jews as a sign of
progress not to exaggerate the extent to which Jews in America actually
control US foreign policy. They don't. The same dominant interests drive
the US relationship with Israel that drive the US relationship with other
countries, with the distinction being that Israel is a particularly
powerful ally (with a captive nation living under its occupation, a
strategic location, ICBMs and nukes, a large air force fleet, a major
player in the international weapons trade, control over symbolically
powerful territory, etc.). Those interests won't go away just because Jews
in America perceive Trump to put them at odds. To the extent that this
phenomenon of Trump betraying Jews is real (and it isn't), it would simply
mean Jews would no longer have the same political capital domestically as
they have now. US support for Israel can and would continue.
