It says posted in 2007. I am surprised to read that as it seems very current.
In any case, this needs to go viral.

John Reimann recommends that I read Burning Country (by Robin Yassin-Kassab and
Leila al-Shami). I have already done so and reviewed it for Links. I was
hoping to send a link to the review, but the Links website (links.org.au) is
down at present.

My review was generally favourable, but I had some differences with the authors
over their attitude to the PYD.

The rebels were a mixed bag, but some were influenced by Sunni sectarianism
and/or Arab chauvinism. They were also affected by the need to obtain military
support from the Turkish state and funding from governments and private sources
in the Gulf states.

The result was that the PYD did not trust them and followed what they called a
"third way".

Chris Slee writes:

*"The PYD remained separate from the Turkish-backed rebels for several
reasons."The Turkish state had a long history of repression against its own
Kurdish population, and encouraged hostility to the Rojava revolution
amongst the rebel groups it supported."*

He misses the point. The PYD and its predecessor never involved themselves
in the uprising against Assad from the very first. At the very least, they
had an implicit truce with Assad. Yes, maybe some of the rebellion had
prejudices against the Kurds, but Chris should read "Burning Country". The
authors make it very clear that the majority of the rebels made very
conscious attempts to appeal to all groups in Syria. That includes both the
Shia and the Kurdish people.

As Louis, I have not viewed this film, but it is my understanding that a number
of Bisbee strikers,
were forceably marched by foot during the hot daylight hours through the
desert and not placed
only on railraod animal stock cars?

For those who missed the chance to see “Bisbee ‘17” last year because
you lived in places where it was not being shown or because, like me,
you simply let it slip by, there is very good news. This documentary
about an IWW-led strike of copper miners in the company town of Bisbee,
Arizona was recently added to Amazon, iTunes, and other VOD services. It
is a story very relevant to the period we are living in today. When
workers went on strike for higher wages and better working conditions in
July 1917, a posse organized by the bosses at Phelps-Dodge and the local
authorities rounded up the strikers and deported them to Hermanas, New
Mexico in railroad cattle cars, just like Jews being sent to Auschwitz.
Once the 1,300 miners arrived in New Mexico, they were housed in tents
originally intended for use by Mexican refugees, who took refuge in the
USA in order to avoid the Mexican army’s scorched earth tactics against
Pancho Villa. As should be obvious, not much has changed since 1917.

I'll ask that resistance always defers to the Democrats. And the Democrats
generally defer to the most conservative among them.

If they foist Biden on the base and lose, they will wind up blaming Bernie,
Ralph Nader Jill Stein or anybody on the "Left."

But after last month’s tariff threats from President Trump, the way in
which López Obrador appeared ready to bypass civil government and human
rights concerns—all to preserve his relationship with the United
States—is giving many cause for concern. Despite once insisting he’d
refuse to “do the U.S.’s dirty work” on immigration, López Obrador is
using the National Guard to crack down on migrants crossing Mexico in
their journey to the U.S. border. After negotiations with the Trump
administration on reducing the number of migrants heading north, Mexico
announced it would deploy the National Guard to combat migration. Though
the National Guard legally has the authority to arrest migrants, its use
specifically for immigration enforcement took the human rights community
by surprise.
