For those who accept any attack on the left, to quickly post here,
and what is this reliable source of "apparent" and what is the "worth:
needed to state here?

it is possible that this Dayton shooter lied about his real political views
promoting himself on the internet social media sites, to lure others his age
to have them look up to him with respect and awe - that he much sought?

And just might have been a very mentally ill anti-social person - due to
alienation, inscurity and lack of self worth. We have one currently in
the White House Oval Office, presently sitting behind the Resolute Desk
with the same anger and anguish. The very same mentality.

Obviously, for the stories (not confirmed facts) - that he supported Elizabeth
Warren
(who herself a lying pro-capitalist self-promoting poiitician seeking personal
gain)
and he also made up rape lists of women targets - seems more a reactionary would
dream up suh to promote and for intention to cause confusion and take the focus
off the extreme right wing.

Those intending such attacks on civilian public areas, are the exteme right
wing.
Why would a so called "leftist" attack and target poor workers at bars of high
numbes of People of Color, wanting to party (rather than at church on Sunday?)
Including killing his working class sister. His grand parents gave him shelter
and
he knows that act alone, would hurt them. So does that make any sense -or
reflects what we should expect - another young white male acting his anger out.

It is why with such high levels of anti-social aliention and insecurity, that
having easy
access to high volume shooting automatic weapons with large bullet capacity,
such as the AK47, AR 15 and the easier to hold Glocks 17 and 18 models easy
reloads, less heated up weapons to hold, is a increasing problem for many in
working class communities, under economic seige and emotional stress.

Working Class communities under increasing militarized police occupation,
that also should be part of the "sharing" of issues around these public area
attacks of civilians. We hear constantly at the top of all local news each
night
of the "violence" - not of the empire's military forces and mercenaries and
client
state operators oppressing our comrades and laborers - but local store
robberies,
home break ins, family violence - all with the same message each nightand day:
"lock your doors, be afriad of your neighbors and all you do not know - and
trust the police who are the only force to protect you from all the outsiders.
Don't hang out in public areas socializing with neighbors, stay inside watch
television and computer screens - and fear the general communiy of strangers.

Did you get the message - being promoted by much of the corporate media?
It is not "ratings" with covering police car chases, most working people are
bored with them taking up their expected tv viewing of more than a car chase
that goes on and on - and one looks like the others. Boring

It is messaging - and by whom and for what purpose - and if you believe it is
all coincidental but instead promoted what to cover and what to not mention,
such as those nothersome climate up date reports that do not place the fossil
fuel companies in as positive a light.

Shooter in Dayton - Yep, not just the usual police - and how many shot today in
other
nations and why? No time for that "much less important coverage".

Who is being programed and conditioned? Is it just providing news and who
are the news directors and news editors. serving and obeyong for that news?

Sure don't you see we obviously need more police control and surveilance
and some less civil liberties to eliminate the threat of potential terrorism.
Not of course eliminate the capitalist terrorism arond the world, to silence
those objecting and questioning. After all there must be "priorities" and
established by experts selected by various committees appointed by people
that can not be removed from office through "simple elections. self electing
commississions and board oversight groups. We can "certainly trust them"!
They are only trying to help us and protect us. Don;t be alarmed those
public surveillance cameras and drnes and more AI machines to come -
will bring better law and more needed order.Big Brother cares about you.

I can't say I understand the legal technicalities as of yet but they got
rid of two constitutional provisions that nominally gave Kashmir protected

NASHVILLE — Residents of a quiet working-class neighborhood in the
Hermitage section of Nashville woke up very early on July 22 to find
officials from Immigration and Customs Enforcement trying to arrest one of
their own.

An unmarked pickup truck with flashing red and blue lights had pulled into
the man’s driveway, blocking his van. Two ICE agents armed with an
administrative warrant ordered the man and his 12-year-old son to step out
of their vehicle. The man, who had lived in the neighborhood for some 14
years, did exactly what the Tennessee Immigrant Refugee and Rights Coalition
urges immigrants to do in such cases: He
stayed put.

An administrative warrant gives officials permission to detain a suspect
but it does not allow them to enter his house or vehicle. The ICE officials
in that Nashville driveway were apparently counting on the man not to know
that. With an administrative warrant, “there’s no judicial review, no
magistrate review, no probable cause,” Daniel Ayoade Yoon, a lawyer later
summoned to the house by immigration activists, told The Nashville Scene

. He told WTVF
,
“They were saying, ‘If you don’t come out, we’re going to arrest you, we’re
going to arrest your 12-year-old son.’” The administrative warrant they
held did not give them the authority to do either.

Neighbors witnessing the standoff were appalled. “We was like, ‘Oh my God,
are you serious?’” Angela Glass told WPLN
.
“And that’s when everybody got mad and was like, ‘They don’t do nothing,
they don’t bother nobody, you haven’t got no complaints from them. Police
have never been called over there. All they do is work and take care of
their family and take care of the community.’”

Another neighbor, Stacey Farley, told Newsweek
,
“The family don’t bother nobody, they work every day, they come home, the
kids jump on their trampoline. It’s just a community.”

More neighbors joined the scene and urged the man and his son not to listen
to the agents. As temperatures rose in the hot Tennessee sun, they brought
water and food and cool rags. They refilled the van’s gas tank so the man
could keep his air-conditioner running. “We stuck together like neighbors
are supposed to do,” Felishadae Young told WZTV

.

ICE officials summoned the Nashville police for backup, but the officers
who arrived stood nearby but did not intervene. State law
prohibits any
Tennessee community from designating itself a sanctuary city, but the
police here don’t get involved in civil immigration cases. “We’re not here
to enforce any federal script,” Sgt. Noah Smith told The Tennessean
.
“We’re just here if anything major happens.”

More than four hours later, ICE agents finally abandoned their efforts and
drove away, though everyone on the scene expected them to return. Neighbors
and activists linked arms to form a human chain from the van to the door of
the house. The man and his son dashed inside. A woman came to the door and
in Spanish tearfully thanked bystanders for their help. Shortly thereafter,
the family fled.

This story of one undocumented family in one hardworking neighborhood of
one growing Southern city generated national attention, with articles
appearing in outlets as disparate as Essence

, The Washington Post

, The Miami Herald

, The Cut

, CBS News

 and The New York Post

As I mentioned in my post about the ICE shooter and Gilroy, expect a lot
more of it since the lack of any organized left with the capacity to create
change fuels the individualist mentality of rage shooters. At least in the
minds of rage and workplace shooters, who lack collective consciousness,
this is an appropriate response to them. And when you get the propaganda
of the deed folks chiming in, it's a clarion call to the unbalanced and a
clear avenue for mass repression. Guaranteed if this guy was at a racist
skinhead concert, the "antifa" crowd would be loving it.

I wasn't aware of the accused Dayton shooter being supposedly on the
"left". I think it strengthens my argument that the increase in mass
shootings is not simply a matter of increase racism and xenophobia; it's
related to the numbing of violence and the lowered levels of empathy
(expressed in class terms as class solidarity) in all layers of society.
And the faux left is not immune from this.

In the wake of attacks on Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for describing
immigrant detention centers as “concentration camps,” author Zoe Samudzi
asked, “Why are Jewish organizations given moral authority over use of
terms like ‘concentration camp’ and ‘genocide,’” but not people from other

Samudzi wrote the recent article “Policing the Borders of Suffering.”

There's a number of good essays over the last few years available online.
To frame the issue, see
https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2018/01/14/trump-populism-history-216320

.The standard Marxist view of the Populists is Anna Rochester's little
book, available online at
https://archive.org/details/ThePopulistMovementInTheUnitedStates

The introduction to the short version of Lawrence Goodwyn's groundbreaking
_Democratic Promise: The Populist Movement in America_
https://ratical.org/corporations/PMSHAGAintro.html
Goodwyn's work spawned a series of solid reviews of the subject.

My two cents . . . in a nutshell . . . .

If you're talking about Populism after 1896, you're basically talking about
the Democratic party under the rubric of populism. The People's party,
coaxed by the silver lobby, aligned itself behind the Democratic ticket
headed by William Jennings Bryan. While dealing with a mass movement
always allows for cherry picking, but the erosion of the Populist potential
in terms of race--epitomized in the repeated call for the free and fair
ballot in the South--came to end with a distinctive Populism
generally--throttled by the Democratic Party.

Although a rump "middle-of-the-road" group around Tom Watson persisted into
the twentieth century, these mostly represented Southerners unwilling to
accept assimilation into the Democrats. These took longer to break down
and assimilate into the Democratic Party and their drift towards an
acceptance of white supermacism reflected that drift into the arms of
Woodrow Wilson, etc.

The post WWII American intellectuals, being East Coast liberals, had
rationalized the secular jihad against Communism, and sanctified the
writing out of our past of socialism and radical labor also recast populism
as a movement of easily misled ignorant bumpkins from the middle of the
country and the South. Too, these thoroughly Establishment authors of
McCarthyism also preferred to attribute McCarthyism to those same kind of
people. In another sense, of course, this anti-democratic, elitist
perspective also seemed to offer a microcosm of how they saw the Cold War
world.

It obviously also echoes in the dishonest and idiotic cant of the media and
punditry about the 2016 election, essentially a cross-town intramural New
York game between Trump and Clinton. In the aftermath, the people who got
it all wrong as pundits and totally misjudged the state of the country
among the Democratic strategists decided that Trump won because of all the
out of touch parochial dummies in the center of the country. This, despite
the statistics showing the average Trump voter to be marginally better off
than the Clinton voters, etc. This despite the demographic studies
indicating that most of those alleged Trump voters sat on their hands.

Cheers,
Mark L.

Over this weekend, China’s Yuan currency broke out of its band and
devalued to more than 7 to $1. At the same time China announced it would
not purchase more US agricultural goods. The Trump-US Neocon trade
strategy has just imploded. As this writer has been predicting, the
threshold has now been passed, from a tariff-trade war to a broader
economic war between the US and China where other tactics and measures
are now being implemented.

https://zcomm.org/znetarticle/the-global-currency-war-has-begun/

What appears to me to be missing in Rasmus's analysis is emphasis on the
effect on exchange rates of the fact that the US is no longer
competitive, against China especially, in the global market. And that is
not going away, whatever happens to the world economy generally. US
policy has no answer to that, except to accuse China of manipulating the
exchange rate, unfairly, and purloining trade secrets and innovative
technology. This won't get them a plug nickel.

It seems reasonable that shifting exchange rates are not so much a
result of tactical manipulation of that rate as they are of the shift in
the relative accretion of surplus value, and what it does to global
competitive position over all. Capital will flow where the return on
capital investment is expected to be highest, and that is foreordained
by the never-ending savage competition by different nation-state-based
transnational corporations for market share which pervades global trade.
This information should be front and center when we on the left consider
geopolitics and investment strategy.

To extract from foreign-based capital generally as a condition of
sharing in domestic production, venture capital and markets the
concession that they also share the trade advantages and innovative tech
and organizing tactics that go along with that cooperation is to be
expected.

Competition in capitalism always has been a no-holds-barred war for
competitive advantage, literally by any means necessary, as Anwar Shaikh
says, including stealth-stealing of technology documentation and burning
down the warehouse, or prolonged proxy-conducted and direct military
conflict, So nothing new here.

So with the "broader economic war between the US and China where other
tactics and measures are now being implemented."

We on the historical-materialist, socialist left should, by the way, in
order to get the longer view be studying the financial and business
literature, WSJ, NYT Financial, Harvard Business Review, Barron's,
Bloomberg, IMF, World Bank and BIS reports, what capitalists want to
know, as much as or more than the surface appearances in the daily msm.
What do we think got Marx so far ahead, other than close attention to
all these deeper manifestations in his time?

[Marxism] How African-American land was stolen throughout the 20th century

“Between 1910 and 1997, African Americans lost about 90% of their
farmland.” That loss cost black families hundreds of billions of dollars
.
In 2012, less than 2 percent of farmers were black, according to the most
recent Agricultural Census.

While rural blacks lost land, real estate holdings of urban blacks were
wiped out by a combination of government discrimination and private
exploitation. Because black families could not get regular mortgages due to
redlining by banks, if they wanted to buy a house they had to resort to
private land sale contracts, in which the price was inflated and no equity
was earned until the entire contract was paid off. If the family moved or
missed one payment, they lost everything. A recent study of this practice
in Chicago in the 1950s and 1960s showed that black families lost up to $4
billion

in
today’s dollars.

For the first time in decades, reparations for African Americans who were
victimized by the white federal and state governments are being discussed
seriously. This story about whites taking black property shows how
superficial, disingenuous and ahistorical are the arguments made by
conservatives against reparations. When Sen. Mitch McConnell delivered his
simplistic judgment

last
month, he was continuing the cover-up of modern white real estate theft: “I
don't think reparations for something that happened 150 years ago for whom
none of us currently living are responsible is a good idea.”

Today’s economic gap between black and white began with slavery.
Emancipation freed slaves, but left them with nothing. Hundreds of millions
of acres of land were given away to white families. When blacks gradually
managed to get some land, it was taken by violence and legal trickery
during the 20th century. After World War II, blacks were denied access to
another giant government economic program, the GI Bill, which helped
millions of white veterans acquire houses. The collusion of federal, state
and local governments, banks, and real estate professionals bilked African
Americans of billions of dollars in real estate, with the subprime mortgage
crisis only a
decade ago as the latest chapter. What I have written here is only an
outline of the racist narrative.

Depends which populism we're talking about --- there were populists even in
the South who supported and interracial class alliance --- Even Tom WAatson
who later became a vicious racist started out totally different ---

I was referring to post 1896 southern populists who opted (with a few
exceptions -- see 1899 in Wilminston) for disenfranchisement --

That's the crucial story told (I still believe it's accurate even if old)
in THE STRANGE CAREER OF JIM CROW by Woodward ---

I recall what Fred Feldman said. The only limitation on what capitalist
politicians will say in a time of crisis is the physical limitation imposed by
our vocal apparatus.

Also, I recall a report on a large meeting of the SDS in Germany back in the
‘60s. A speaker delivered a radical speech and earned stormy applause. The

Thank you Louis -- I was totally convinced by the article -- I had no idea
Carlson was such a DANGEROUS mix of accurate economic analysis and
dangerous racism .

In the 1890s, the Populist Party for a brief moment made an effort to
create a black and white alliance -- but after the 1896 elections, decided
that the top dogs in the South had been able to "corral" the black vote ---
so the Populists opted for disenfranchisement in the hope that they (the
Populists) would command the white majority based on self-interest --

But in fact from that point on, the only way to get elected in the South
was to sound the alarm about black folks (using different language of
course).

The last gasp of the black-white alliance (which included Populists) was
the terorist insurrection that drove out the elected government of
Wilminston, North Carolina in 1899 --- The novel THE MARROW OF TRADITION by
Chesnut (sp?) is a pretty good fictionalization of some of what was going
on there ... but I bet there are some good historical treatments as well.
