I have no interest in either banning or responding on a point-by-point
basis to the stuff that comrades have been forwarding from Michael
Probsting but I am now watching a live feed of a protest of mainly young
white and black people at the 3rd precinct in Minneapolis. It is
nonsense to think that social distancing, or what people like Probsting
and the Off-Guardian website call a "shutdown", would inhibit people
from taking to the streets if there was a genuine motivation to act. Or
that Bill Gates had some secret plans to track every last soul through a
quantum based computer to prevent a revolution. It was simply a
combination of being gobsmacked by the massive trauma of so many people
dying in such a short time, plus no obvious issue that would bring
people out. My guess is that the young people confronting the cops are
smart enough to keep a reasonable distance from each other and that most
of them are probably in a housing situation with peers rather than with
older relatives. In any case, you can expect a lot more of this in the
months and years ahead of us as capitalism continues its death rattle.

As for me, I just learned that I tested positive for COVID-19 antibodies
so that would presumably keep me immunized. Then again, I don't get
around much any more, as Duke Ellington put it.

To what degree Putin/Russia influenced the outcome of the 2016 election is
not the point. Nor is the point why Clinton lost nor why the Democrats are
focusing on this aspect. The point is that this denialism is all too common
on the left. It's the same method of non-thinking, the same method of
refusal to seriously consider actual evidence that leads all too many on
the left to support Assad. That is why we should not ignore it or divert
attention away from this method.

While Russia no doubt had some influence on the 2016 presidential election,
other factors were more important. The electoral college system enabled Trump
to win even though he got less votes. Voter suppression deprived millions of
poor and minority voters of the right to vote.

The Democrats focus on Russia because they prefer to blame foreigners rather
than look critically at the US political system.

Here in Australia we are always being warned about Chinese influence on our
political system. US influence is rarely discussed. It is taken for granted
as the natural state of affairs.

To take just one example, a large part of Australia's media is owned by a US
company, News Corp (controlled by Rupert Murdoch).

The Australian ruling class generally does not see this as a problem.
Australia is an ally of the US, and participates in US wars (e.g. Korea,
Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq).

However the rise of China has led some ruling class figures to question this
close relationship, favouring instead a more neutral attitude in the conflict
beteeen the US and China.

Here we have Rob Urie continuing the nonsense about "Russiagate". Rob Urie
is one of those who is so obsessed with opposition to neoliberalism that he
is willing to indirectly support something even worse. (It's no accident
that he's also published in that extreme cospiracy theorist and Assad/Putin
supporting Mint Press News.) "Russiagate?" What "Russiagate"? You think
Putin & Co. didn't involve themselves in the last elections? Really? You
think Trump & Co. didn't encourage it? What was that meeting at Trump Tower
all about? Why did so many of Trump's staffers have contacts with Putin
representatives? Every imperialist power - including Russia - has its
preferred methods of influencing world affairs. It's now been shown that
Putin & Co. helped get Brexit passed. Here in the US, among other things,
they help racism along. Look up "blackstar". And, yes, Putin does have
"kompromat" over Trump. So, you think he wouldn't use it? That's like
thinking that a drug cartel doesn't use violence.
Here's an article of his in Counterpunch. Sure, maybe they have some good
stuff, but if they also publish such nonsense, How can they be taken
seriously?

The latest issue of Catalyst, a journal that is published by Bhaskar
Sunkara and Vivek Chibber, has an article by economics professor Gary
Mongiovi titled “Was Keynes a Socialist?” It is a gushing review of
“Keynes Against Capitalism: His Economic Case for Liberal Socialism”, a
new book by James Crotty. Crotty, a 79-year old economics professor
emeritus, is a post-Keynesian just like Mongiovi. Among the left
professorate, post-Keynesianism is a way of being on the left but not
too far left. It puts you in the same camp as the staff of the Jerome
Levy Institute at Bard College, a school well-known for its housebroken
faculty. At such places, Hyman Minsky is taken in large doses and Karl
Marx just to add some spice to the stew.

They did hold property in common. There are also records of women leading
Jesus-group congregations, as Paul reports (and his letters are the earliest
extant evidence for Christianity and its roots).

31 As they prayed, the house where they were assembled rocked. From this
time they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to proclaim the

32 The whole group of believers was united, heart and soul; no one claimed

outrages. The unions have been entirely missing Union members should
not think this doesn’t affect them directly. The same way that the union
leadership bows down before the corporate-controlled politicians they bow
down before the employers. And as far as the membership of the unions: If

The Police and Surveillance State in the Post-Lockdown Phase

A global review of the ruling class’s plans of expanding the bonapartist
state machinery

By Michael Pröbsting, 21 May 2020

Contents

Introduction

An expected development

The Lockdown was not directed against the pandemic

Which “new normal” is the ruling class planning for?

China: the most successful regime in making “Big Brother” omnipresent

Moscow follows the Chinese model and creates a “Cyber Gulag”

The U.S.: “the ancient past known as February” and today

European Union: surveillance and the model of “red/green zones”

India: State Bonapartism under semi-colonial conditions

South Africa: Lockdown imposed by a “progressive” government

One of the received ideas that became a ‘truth’ after the fall of the
Berlin Wall was that the Soviet bloc’s populations cursed communism, yet
obeyed it slavishly. In fact, many social movements within the Eastern
bloc had long aspired to genuine socialism.
