The regime of Occupied Palestine has long played upon the still lingering guilt of the West for its inaction and complicity with the Nazi Holocaust and the deep-rooted Western anti-Arab/anti-Muslim prejudices to portray itself as the victim of the true victim. Sadly, there have been no tactics and strategy available to the Palestinians that could have overcome this until a generation or two passed from the scene and a new generation, freer from these prejudices, could see the situation as one of a terrible injustice. For those who call for a non-violent civil disobedience approach, we saw the result last month when Israeli snipers shot at unarmed Palestinians marching toward the Apartheid Wall marking off the West Bank. I originally posted the article in question not because I see liberation as just around the corner, but that the momentum has definitely swung in the direction of truth and an honest accounting of the crimes of the Zionist colonial-settler state. The Israeli panic at the effect of the BDS movement is one sign of this. I believe the reason the anti-Apartheid movement was so successful ultimately was that the anti-Apartheid movement had an impeccably untarnished reputation Israel has been "lucky" in that many of its opponents have used terrorist tactics and pemitted Israel to successfully demonize the entire Palestinian resistance movement in terms of world public opinion --- The Apartheid regime tried to use anti-communism to shore up support at home as well as in "the west" but the dignified consistency of the opposition (even when moving to armed struggle) made it impossible for the Apartheid regime to "win" in the struggle for public opinion. The wave of suicide bombings that ushered in the second Intifada destroyed the credibility of the Palestinian resistance -- (yes, I know Israel kills many more with her bombs and the activities of the IDF --- and yes, the world seems to just shrug at the unbelievable ratio of dead and wounded --- but that is how world public opinion has supported the Israeli government over recent years --- ) The Palestinian resistance has a long tough struggle to make its case before the world -- just one single attack on Jewish institutions and/or individuals in Europe undos years of hard work by non-violent activists --- it's a cruel fact about the world --- and Israeli governments play that card over and over again --- On Wed, Nov 21, 2018 at 8:17 AM Louis Proyect via Marxism < marxism@lists.csbs.utah.edu> wrote: > POSTING RULES & NOTES > #1 YOU MUST clip all extraneous text when replying to a message. > #2 This mail-list, like most, is publicly & permanently archived. > #3 Subscribe and post under an alias if #2 is a concern. > * > > > https://zcomm.org/znetarticle/the-tide-is-turning-israel-is-losing-on-two-war-fronts/ > _ > Full posting guidelines at: http://www.marxmail.org/sub.htm > Set your options at: > https://lists.csbs.utah.edu/options/marxism/mameerop%40gmail.com > _ Full posting guidelines at: http://www.marxmail.org/sub.htm Set your options at: https://lists.csbs.utah.edu/options/marxism/archive%40mail-archive.com
