Thank you Patrick. I don't follow the struggle of the indigenous peoples of South America very closely, but I am disturbed by how quickly some on the left engage in denial and "easily jump to conclusions" that just happen to support governments that they defend. Whether it's defenders of "anti-imperialists" like Assad or Putin, Stalin's USSR, Mao's China, or progressive movements in Venezuela, Bolivia, and Ecuador, we as Marxists must base ourselves on the facts, even if that leads us into criticizing those whose movements we generally support. That goes for the essence of the posted article as well as Chavez and Fidel's support for Ahmadinejhad and now Assad. It also applies retroactively to what we have now learned of the Russian chauvinist policy of the Bolsheviks towards the Ukrainian revolutionary government of 1918.
