The Globe & Mail is roughly the equivalent of the New York Times in
(English-speaking) Canada.

The chastening of the President is mostly the accomplishment of the Peoples’
Democracy Party (HDP). The party is mainly but by no means only Kurdish. This
is the first time that a Kurdish-based party has managed to get past the
10-per-cent threshold so as to actually win seats in the Turkish parliament – a
welcome development in a country that is multi-ethnic, but which has long tried
to pretend otherwise.

Still, the HDP is the equivalent of the radical Greek party Syriza and the
Spanish Podemos. It sits on the far left.
