And when gender-critical feminists refuse to obey the demands of people
like MM to accept trans definition of who is a woman they face getting
sacked.  Maya Forstater wasn't sacked for denying the existence of
discrimination, of course; she was sacked for, in her own time, refusing to
accept the terminology that biological males are women.

The level of misogyny that is being exposed in this is extraordinary.  See,
for instance, the violent, disturbed poison that gender-critical women have
to put up with every day from a layer of males whop identify as trans
women.  Needless to say there is no equivalent of this fascistic tirade
being directed by gender-critical women against trans-identified men.

progressive position is to demand straight men stop assaulting

Should the left rally behind people who dispute the reality of structural 
racism outside of work hours, when employers sack them for those views? Always? 
If not always, under what circumstances?

Let’s talk about logical consistency. The following two assertions are made 
back-to-back in the linked piece:

2. While gender  expression can change over time for both individuals and 
society as a whole, biological sex is immutable.

Without getting into the numbers, the second assertion directly contradicts the 
first — unless perhaps the word “immutable” is to be construed in some 
miraculously dialectical way.

When people ostensibly on the left start insisting that others simply accede to 
their terminology in order to be taken seriously, it’s time to accept that 
they’re not interested in good-faith dialogue. They’re shouting. Actually, it 
starts to sound a lot like Jordan Peterson or Ben Shapiro (which may not be 
coincidental).

I understand why Louis is reluctant to take steps to keep this shit off the 
list, but I’d appreciate at least getting a temperature check to know whether 
any of the odious nonsense that Philip keeps posting is considered to deserve 
substantive engagement. I’m happy to just ignore it if I know that everyone 
else is ignoring it too, although it seems like there is at least some degree 
of hesitation among at least some list members to do so. Maybe Louis could take 
some kind of off-the-record poll, since it seems like relatively few people are 
willing to take a position for the record. But this is getting tedious.

PS: Is there a functionally Marxist definition of “paramount”? Asking for a 
friend.

The left in the U.S., Canada and Europe – ranging from militant radicals to
tepid reformers – has exhibited remarkable silence regarding certain
aspects of transgender ideology and their deleterious effect on other
social movements. Everyone defends the concept of civil and human rights
for all, including trans people. But some go a step further, demanding not
only the right of each individual to their own personal preferences,
behaviors and lifestyle, but also the right of a few to impose their
beliefs on others. Those beliefs, when codified in law and public policy,
materially affect the rights of women, gays, lesbians and more.
