Last week my union organized a three day picket of all six job
centres/unemployment agencies (I don't know the US term for a
governmental agency which is supposed to help jobseekers find work but
actually is set up to exert control over unemployment benefits) in my
home town.
Our banners read : "The bosses exploit you then throw you in the trash
can... Your misery is their profits ... Organize and fight !"
I noticed that 30% of jobseekers applauded us, 60% though we were right
but that "we can't change the way the world works, the rich will always
be rich and the poor will always be downtrodden" and 10% told us that
they "were going to make it on their own, that they didn't care what
happened to others and that one always had to look out for n°1"
I am curious to know if these observations also applie to the US and to
mainstream attitudes there towards the current "unemployment crisis".
