All these conspiracy theories are distractions to throw the working class off the chase. They are a sign of working class immaturity, particularly in conservative regions, where nationalism and religiosity are rife (the US, the Muslim world, ...) Any nationalist or religious leader can come around and explain away class antagonism by creating a dichotomy between us (the ill-defined "nation") versus them (the villainous outsiders). Come on ! The world econonomy is stagnating. Over-production, under-utilization of factories and under-consumption, and all the contradictions brought about by capitalism, are readily apparent the world over. In every country the bourgeoisie is bludgeoning the working class to death. In my home town, unemplyment is in the double digits, and the French government is going to introduce pay freezes and push back the legal retirement age to 67 (I'll still be working when I drop dead !) We have built this world, and we must be content with the tid-bits thrown to us by our masters and betters ? This truth is intuitively grasped by all working people, but too often it is warped and twisted into nationalist and fundamentalist frameworks. New bosses and new chains. Again , the answer, IMHO, lies in strong unions who are willing to take on the capitalist elite ... and win ! ________________________________________________ Send list submissions to: Marxism@lists.econ.utah.edu Set your options at: http://lists.econ.utah.edu/mailman/options/marxism/archive%40mail-archive.com
