It's not my meaning as those are not my words. I quote things I do not agree entirely with. In this case, I think the author of the piece I cited is arguing that Irish Catholic and E. European Jews assimilated or were accepted as American faster than the Italians. This is argued perhaps because of the misunderstood diversity and differences amongst the Italians that I cited earlier--the S. Italians being harder for racist, anti-Catholic, anti-communist, anti-anarchist US to accept. Moreover, Italian Americans have never had projects like 'Zion in Palestine' to transform their image. Jewish impact in Hollywood is also a major factor. If you watched American films to understand social conditions in the US, you might think urban gangs are always racially integrated, blacks make up 30-50 percent of the population, that Jews are at least the third largest minority in the US, and that racism is an invention of poor southern whites. I'm not saying that Hollywood does justice to any of these topics though. I do know that whenever an Italian surnamed person (not fake ones like Leonardo Decaprio) enter public life there is almost always talk of 'mafia' or shady business connections. Especially if the person is from the East.
