setupext.py contains a basedir directory. Please add there
'linux2-alpha', 'linux2-hppa', 'linux2-mips', 'linux2-sparc',
'gnukfreebsd7', 'gnukfreebsd8'.
It would be nice, if matplotlib had an option to disable '/usr/local'.
