Hello List,

we have two independant Web Applications runnning,
one already on SAPDB, one still on Adabas (which we want to get rid off).

In the future the Database for the two applications should run on one physical machine:
- Debian Linux 3.0
- 1 processor 2,8 GHz
- 2 GB RAM
- RAID 1 for OS and MaxDB
- RAID 1 for Logs
- RAID 0/1 for DATA,
- ...

Both applications have currently a data volume of approx. each 2-3 GB and are growing slow but constantly.

One question concerning the DB installation.
Which of the two alternatives is more attractiv?

1. Create TWO independant database instances,
   one for Application A and
   one for Application B

2. Create TWO Users in ONE database instance,
User ONE for Application A and
   User TWO for Application B

Advantages for Alternative 2 seems to have
- only one backup procedure
- only one time of setting parameters

Are there also advantages for Alternative 1?

What's about performance?

Thank you for any hints
and best regards

   Hannes
