Simmons. I have been fascinated by collections for as long as I can remember, and started my own museum at age 12. My freshman year in college (1969) I began working in a campus museum while getting a B.S. in Systematics and Ecology. As a student I completed archaeology field school, spent a year doing field work in the Amazon, and another 15 months traveling through South America collecting museum specimens. I started my professional career as a keeper at the Fort Worth (Texas) Zoological Park, then worked as a collections manager at the California Academy of Sciences and the Natural History Museum at the University of Kansas, where I obtained my M.A. in Museum Studies and served as director of the Museum Studies Program from 2001-2007. I am now a full-time museum consultant (based in Pennsylvania), and work internationally, specializing in collections care and policy issues, professional training, and teach museum studies for Kent State University, the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, and Museum Study LLC. I am also Adjunct Curator of Collections for the Earth and Mineral Sciences Museum & Art Gallery at Penn State University. Museum work has been very rewarding and provided many wonderful travel opportunities as well as time to write—my books include Cuidado, Manejo y Conservación de las Colecciones Biológicas (2005, with Yaneth Muñoz-Saba), Fluid Preservation: A Comprehensive Reference (2014), Foundations of Museum Studies: Evolving Systems of Knowledge (2014, with Kiersten Latham), Herpetological Collecting and Collections Management (third edition, 2015), Museums: A History (2016), and Things Great and Small: Collections Management Policies (second edition, 2017). I have been honored to receive the University of Kansas Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Mentoring of Graduate Students (2005), the Kansas City Area Archivists Award for Excellence (2006), the Carolyn L. Rose Award for Outstanding Commitment to Natural History Collections and Management (2011), and the Dudley-Wilkinson Award of Distinction from the Registrars Committee of the American Alliance of Museums (2016). And I still love museums as much as I did when I was a kid. **Australasian Registrars Conference Registration Now Open** The Australasion Registrars Committee are pleased to announce that registration for the 2018 ARC Conference, Duration and Dimension, being held Oct. 3 - 5, 2018 in Melbourne, Australia, is now open.
