I've attached PDF copies of our Help Desk and Network Admin. job descriptions.

The salary range, in Canadian $, for Help Desk is $26,283 - $33,278 and for 
Network Admin is $36,592 - $46,354. Some folks (including me) think that our 
salaries are low when compared to the "real world". But I have to admit that I 
have never had a problem hiring very competent folks into either position. I 
had about 300 applicants for the Net. Admin. job when I last advertised it.

At Glenbow we have a three tier computer support structure. Help Desk is the 
first step, they do a kind of triage on incoming support requests and determine 
priorities. They resolve the issues that they are able to deal with fairly 
quickly and escalate more difficult problems to level two support. Level two 
support consists of our Network Administrator, Collections System DBA and me 
the Manager of Computer Services. Really thorny problems are escalated to level 
three support which is a contracted, one-day-a-week position from a trusted 
vendor that we have an almost partnership type of relationship with. This 
structure works really well for us.

I'd be interested to hear how others have structured IT support.

Also might you have a job description for a position that deals more with 
servers, keeping the operating systems up-to-date, internet, firewall admin, 
routers and switches, more high end than desktop support.  Would you share that 
job description with me?
