[MCN-L] kiosk system

2011-11-14 Thread Adrienne Romano
Hello,

We are looking for a self-contained kiosk system and wondered if anyone could
recommend a unit. We are looking for something with a full HD touch screen at
1920 x 1080, and can run wirelessly.

Thanks in advance for the information.

Adrienne Romano

[MCN-L] Wad-Giles to Pinyin Conversion

2011-11-14 Thread Smith, Jeffrey
John,

I checked with one of our Chinese Curators who is a specialist in translation.
He said " I do not know of any software that could do this and would be a
little leery of any that claimed it could, especially since the first
assumption is that the Wade-Giles is correctly and consistently entered."

We are looking at ways to convert Wade-Giles to Pinyin Conversion in our TMS
system. Has anybody else done this? Or does anybody know of software that can
do this?

[MCN-L] Auditors recommendation?

2011-11-14 Thread John Bedard
Our auditors are recommending that employees in key positions (*both IT and
business process*) should be required to take five consecutive days of Paid
Time Off (PTO) and prohibiting employees from coming onsite and accessing
the network and application systems remotely during the PTO period. Are
there any organizations that have this requirement? Or anybody whose
auditors made this recommendation?

[MCN-L] Pets in Collections - call for Submissions

2011-11-14 Thread Cheryl Klimaszewski
To all those working in archives, museums, and libraries who have come across
those positively GREAT photos of, say, a dignitary and his pet chicken or a
monkey wearing overalls, there is exciting news: you now have a place to submit
those items for all the world to see!

http://petsincollections.tumblr.com/

Don't limit yourself to photographs or just to pets; images of animals (real or
imagined) in any media are welcome. So far we have a few takers in the
Philadelphia region, but the goal is to grow this to include items from
collections all over the world. The only requirements are that you submit a
digital image and also link back to your home institution, so it's a nice
little bit of PR, too. Items are tagged with animal, institution name, and
media so that eventually we should have a nifty and fun-to-view set of animal
pics. Just the thing to ward off those winter doldrums!!

Submit items via this simple form:

http://petsincollections.tumblr.com/submit

One item is posted per day at approximately 8:30 am so you can have something
new to look forward to each morning!

Please feel free to forward this far and wide - all are welcome to submit for a
bit of fun, especially in these short, dark winter days. Thanks for humoring
me. And if you have any questions, please contact me at cklimaszew at
brynmawr.edu.
