 ARLIS/NA Launches Learning Portal
  
 The Art Libraries Society of North America (ARLIS/NA) announces the launch of 
its Learning Portal, which includes on-demand access to the Society's webinars, 
virtual conferences and educational initiatives. The Learning Portal provides 
opportunities for ARLIS/NA members and interested others to participate in 
online learning modules focused on current issues most important to the art 
library community in our fast-paced and changing environment.
  
 The ARLIS/NA Learning Portal presents the Society's first virtual conference 
-- four compelling "Art + Politics" themed tracks recorded at the 2014 
Washington, DC annual conference are now available along with additional 
supporting materials:
   
Fostering Creativity: Collaborative Projects in Open Access: Enhancing 
Discoverability of Your Collections via DPLA Power and Agency: Supporting 
the Changing Research Practices of Art Historians  Of, By and For the People: 
The Politics of Change: Digital Humanities   Preserve and Protect : Picturing 
Dissent: Documentation of Labor Movements' Actions from the Late 19th Century 
to the Present 
  
 In addition, the Learning Portal provides on-demand access to ARLIS/NA's 
popular lunchtime chat series and webinars such as the spring 2014 ACRL 
co-presented webinar, "Perspectives in Art Publishing: Past, Present, Future 
and Open."

THATCamp Philly is back for its fourth annual unconference!

Friday, September 19 at the Chemical Heritage Foundation in Old City,
Philadelphia

THATCamp, The Humanities And Technology Camp, is a free, open,
interdisciplinary ?unconference? where humanists and technologists meet to
work together for the common good.

The theme for this year's event is "DH on a Dime" and will focus on
low-cost and creative approaches to Digital Humanities work.

The one-day forum will feature both scheduled workshops and unconference
sessions, dine arounds, swag, refreshments and good cheer!

Workshops will include: "GIS" by Sarah Cordivano of Azavea and GeoPhilly --
"Reusing Existing Platforms and Projects" by Stacey Mann of Night Kitchen
Interactive -- "Finding Data" by Nabil Kashyap of Swarthmore College --
"Humanities Outreach Integrating Livestreamed Video and Social Media" by
Jeff Guin of Chemical Heritage Foundation -- "Video Production and
Publishing Strategies for Small Institutions on a Budget" by Nicole
Scalessa of the Library Company of Philadelphia.

Our late afternoon reception will take place at the nearby historic
"Physick House" and will be sponsored by the Library Company of
Philadelphia.

Symposium  in Chicago will focus 
on the intersection of art and intellectual property.  Art and Artifice blogger 
Rachel Buker will be speaking on appropriation art, in particular legal issues

[MCN-L] MCN Conference Call for Scholarship Applicants and Volunteers

Hello,

My name is Elizabeth Bollwerk. I am the volunteer and scholarship
coordinator (along with Rosanna Flouty) for the 2014 MCN Conference which
will be held this year in Dallas from Nov 19-22, 2014.  I am hoping you
could pass along information about volunteering and scholarships to anyone
at your museum or cultural heritage institution you think might be
interested.

*Volunteers*
We usually have about 15-20 volunteers who work shifts starting on Tuesday,
November 18th through Saturday, November 22nd. Shifts are 4-8 hours, and in
return for each shift the volunteer receives free registration for one day
of the conference. Volunteers can also attend more than one day of the
conference for free if they serve multiple shifts.  It is a great
opportunity for students and emerging professionals to attend MCN!

*Scholarships*
MCN is also pleased to offer scholarships to 15 qualified applicants from
the cultural sector to attend MCN 2014 in Dallas. Scholarships include:

   - One complimentary conference registration

   - A $400 (USD) travel and food allowance
   - Complimentary three (3) hotel-nights (Wednesday 19th, Thursday 20th
   and Friday 21st November) at the Fairmont Dallas Hotel
