[MCN-L] Join the open data movement - register for Wikidata courses this fall

2019-08-13 Thread Samantha Weald
Hi everyone,

Did you know that the Met, the Cleveland Museum of Art, and MOMA have all
taken advantage of Wikidata? And that Wikidata provides a platform for
museum professionals to make works and individuals more discoverable
through authorities and identifiers? This fall, seize new opportunities for
your library, museum, or institution by taking one of Wiki Education's
online Wikidata courses.

*“Contributing to Wikidata has a ripple effect. *
*It's a great way for institutions to contribute our resources to a wide
variety of communities and meet users where they already are.” - past
course participant*

*Get started now!*
data.wikiedu.org

Participants in Wiki Education's online courses meet virtually to learn how
to use, as well as contribute to, the global data repository that is
Wikidata. Each course is six weeks and includes one hour synchronous
sessions with peers, as well as access to hands-on support and technical
training from Wikidata experts. The course will also cover a set of
specialized tools to help museums share their data about their collections
and create linked data efficiently.

Course fee: $800
- *get $100 off if you register before Aug 16th*

[MCN-L] Job: Davison Art Center Registrar and Collections Manager

2019-08-13 Thread Rob Lancefield on lists

Hello all,

The position of Davison Art Center Registrar and Collections Manager, a
university art collections registrar/manager (and collections
information manager) job, has just posted at Wesleyan University. (I'm
not involved in hiring for the position, by the way; it's a recrafted
successor role to a position in which I currently serve). The collection
is managed in EmbARK, which will be the main platform for much of the
work to be done by the successful applicant.

Please feel encouraged to repost and share this, especially if someone
could please pass the link along into the Association of Registrars and
Collections Specialists, where I imagine there may be some interest.

all best,
Rob
