[MCN-L] informal survey of digital photography devicesin museums
Hi all, It would be very interesting to hear from anyone who has implemented a color management workflow. I know of a few places (Yale University Art Gallery has been very helpful as we develop ours), but has anyone smaller had any success? It would be very interesting to hear from anyone who has implemented a color management workflow. I know of a few places (Yale University Art Gallery has been very helpful as we develop ours), but has anyone smaller had any success? I'd like to here - (and do in my own projects), but I've yet to manage to persuade anyone else it would be useful or is important... tim atherton
Re: CD Lifespan?
I attended a very good workshop on longevity and storage of optical and magnetic media put on by the Canadian Conservation Institute three or four years ago. At that time they were in the middle of some very detailed research on the longevity and reliability of CDs and DVDs I saw a lot of their raw data and tentative conclusions at the time, but I believe much of the work was since published by them, though Ive never actually followed up on tracking down the papers Tim Atherton Timothy Atherton Information Management Technician Museums and Collections Services Ring House #1 University of Alberta Edmonton, Alberta Canada T6G 2E1 From: Mike Rippy [mailto:mri...@ima-art.org] Sent: Monday, January 16, 2006 6:48 AM To: mcn-l@mcn.edu Subject: Fwd: CD Lifespan? from h-oralh...@h-net.msu.edu malar...@unr.edu 1/14/2006 4:01:52 PM From: McCormick, Kathleen kmcco...@email.uncc.edu Subject: CD Lifespan? Date: Fri, 13 Jan 2006 Even with magnetic tape, you will face carrier degradation and potential loss of information over time. This topic appears again and again on the Association of Recorded Sound Collections (ARSC) listserv and has been addressed by the International Association of Sound Archives technical committee. There is certainly a lot of uncertainty about CD longevity. Much of which has to do with recurrent changes in the chemical make- up of CDs as the industry responds to public demand, cost concerns, etc. For more information see: The August 2005 issue of RLG DigiNews (an online journal) contains an article titled FAQ: Predicting the Life Expectancy of Modern Tape and Optical Media by Vivek Navale of NARA. The article provides in-depth summaries of several stu! dies by LOC, NIST, NARA, and others. http://www.rlg.org/en/page.php?Page_ID=20744 Katie McCormick Reference Archivist and Coordinator for the Oral History Program Special Collections - J. Re: copyright newsletter
However, I do wish that messages coming from the MCN-Llistserv* would be prefixed with the letters It should be simple to set up the system to do that? In the meantime, if you get your email client to direct all your MCN-L to an MCN-L folder youll know thats all MCN-L mail anyway I tend to do that with all my various lists rather than just clogging up my inbox, but I also know some people find that approach counter-intuitive though Tim a From: Peter Rooney [mailto:magne...@ix.netcom.com] Sent: Wednesday, December 07, 2005 3:14 PM To: mcn-l@mcn.edu Subject: RE: copyright newsletter I don't find it at all offensive. However, I do wish that messages coming from the MCN-Llistserv* would be prefixed with the letters [MCN-L], for example: [MCN-L] Copyright newsletter In this way, people could set filters to read (or not read) the messages, or to direct them into folders for reading and archiving. It's almost become a standard for listservs to handle messages this way. * The word listserv is proprietary, I believe, which is why I put it in quotes.
