Marin,

I maintain a list of some open source DAM systems
 and vendor
directories within the DAM Directory. Names I have heard most often are
Resource Share and Nuxeo.

Hope that helps!

Re: [MCN-L] DDAM

2015-09-29 Thread Deb Fanslow
Hi Perian,

I haven't heard of a combo DM/DAM system yet, but I've heard of a few
organizations who use a DAM connected with Sharepoint as a front end. This
way you get the DM functionality of Sharepoint (versioning and
collaboration), as well as some records management functionality too.
Picturepark and Equilibrium have Sharepoint connectors, and likely this can
be done using other DAM systems with custom API development.

Best,

PS - on a more helpful note - as well as technical acronyms that people
working in museums may come across, this can helpfully extend to include
museum acronyms that technical people working with museums may encounter.
 I
think of the Venn diagram of museums and tech - there are acronyms from
 both
worlds, and some which arise in the intersection area, which some museum
people won't have encountered before, and some tech people won't have
 either.

Off the top of my head:

Tech acronyms that might be useful for museum people includes
 JP2
 PTIF
 ConMS
 ColMS
 DAMS
 Solr
 CRM
 AWS
 XML
 JSON
 REST
 API
 OCR
 LOD
 RDF
 DRM
 UUID

 Museums-for-tech-people includes
 TGN
 AAT
 DACS
 VAGA
 ARS
 AAMD
 RTI
 ROI! (sorry)

 Somewhere in the middle includes
 METS
 TEI
 AIP
 ALTO
 EAD
 LIDO
 CIDOC-CRM
 OAIS
 OAI-PMH
 DCMI
 BagIt
 PREMIS

My head feels better without that lot on top of it.

 Okay, I couldn't resist this call-out.

Back in the day I had a brief foray at Eastman Kodak Company before their
ill-fated attempt to move to digital.

As the TWAIN API is probably still used in Museums for digital imaging,
and while arguable there is general consensus that intended or not, TWAIN
is considered an acronym for Technology Without An Interesting Name. One
 of my all-time favs : )

2014-08-16 Thread Deb Fanslow
Perian,

I am an aspiring DAM manager and new to this list - I would love to learn
more about how institutions are integrating and extending their DAM
systems. Can you post the information you receive regarding your inquiry
below?

Thanks,
Deb Fanslow
http://www.debfanslow.com

A question for those of you who've implemented a digital asset
management system at your institution or elsewhere...

I'm trying to find or generate a list of digital asset management
features that are specific to museums, libraries, and archives. All DAMS
deliver a pretty core set of functions, but I'd like to know how you're
extending these software packages to suit the needs of cultural
institutions. These features might include internal and external uses
and reflect either stand-alone or integrated installations.

Please feel free to reply to me offlist. Thanks,

~P

 Hi fellows,

I am writing a grant to buy 3D scanner and printer and wondering if anyone
here in the list has an advice on what brand or model I should consider. We
plan to use the scanner to scan a valuable African art collection owned by
the university and also offer the service to different museums in the
region. We are interested in user friendly and fast equipment with high
quality. Any inputs would be greatly appreciated.
