In this talk, I'll look at various developments in scholarly communication (citation indexing, web statistics gathering, preprint archives); in identity management; and in name authority control. My fundamental thesis will be that there is an opportunity to begin to deliberately and systematically relate and potentially converge developments in these different areas; I'll lead a discussion of the issues and actors that might be involved in doing so.
