We have the privilege of curating the largest archive of historic photographs in the state of Maine. As resources allow, we've been digitizing these collections and publishing them to our online database. Of course, many of the photographs are not well-described, and the generation best qualified to provide details about them is slowly departing (I'm sure this is a familiar dilemma). We're beginning to look for funding sources to launch a sort of oral history task force which will travel to communities where we know this kind of human resource exists, share images with seniors, and collect their stories about the images. The resulting data will be added to the image records. Can anyone recommend grants or grant makers which would resonate with this kind of project?
