RE: [MDT-OSD] Would you use ConfigMgr Remote Control if it actually worked?

2016-12-01 Thread Miller, Todd
I am sure there is a good reason it was changed from Automatic to
Automatic(delayed)

I know in SCCM 2012, there was a good chance the SMS service would be fail to
start on at reboot – pretty frequently. When we rebooted large numbers of
computers for patches, there would be a detectable number -- 5%(ish) where the
sms service failed to start. Another reboot would usually solve the problem and
once the service was running – it stayed running.
The fix at that time for the problem was to set the service to
automatic(delayed)… I always assumed that MS set the service to Automatic
(delayed) for this reason – that Automatic (not delayed) was unreliable at
boot. I will check in with you at MMS for “the rest of the story”

Not that I would do it en masse, but we’ve been told that it is supported to
change the startup to a regular automatic instead of delayed start.

There’s an interesting backstory to why it is delayed start involving Mr. Gates
I’ll tell you at MMS (if you’re there and interested).

Would simply changing the startup to Automatic for the Configuration Manager

The main thing I want them to add is support for remote machines. You could ask
for Mac support too assuming you are managing your Mac’s with SCCM.

And yes Niall, it should be user voice I screwed up.

Better support for multiple monitors would be a nice addition. Frankly, I am
just glad to have the tool back after it was abandoned (almost) entirely in
SCCM 2007.The support staff’s biggest complaint is lack of useable support
for multiple monitors. Also since SCCM service is delayed start, it takes a
long time for the remote session to become available after a reboot. That
really hamstrings certain support workflows.
