Just one question, does this mean we won't have vanilla N900 handset
releases for 1.3?; it's been a while since we don't get a new image for it.
Remember, there wasn't Handset release even for 1.2. Images are built
however for N900, not for IA though it seems. Community Edition continues
supporting ARM and N900, and also N950/N9 quite soon.

You are right, so, what I actually wonder is if the armv7hl images will stop
 being generated soon from upstream.

Hope not.

About Handset UX, how about making a community-driven UX? There is
 already a such initiative, see:
 http://wiki.meego.com/Yet_Another_GUI_Project.
 Really interesting :)

Where is the main discussion happening for this project?, a mailing list?,
 some IRC channel?

In IRC probably, look for 'jnwi' and ask.

Doubt it, at least core images should always flow. For 1.3 we're still
working on the base level stuff.

Hi Jukka,

Hmmm. I wonder if we could merge them somehow. Since the conversation is still
ongoing, I will postpone the changes to get the agreed method for them. There's
no use to make huge changes now and immediately new changes after conversation
is over.

I'm starting my summer vacation today, going to be out of office for next 3
weeks. I will follow the conversation and when community has made up it's mind
I will do the changes. Can't promise for sure that it happens during my
vacation, if not then I do them immediately after I'm back at work.

In the meantime, the marking WONTFIX bugs can be started. I created a new
keyword: 'maintainer_needed' to get the not officially maintained, wontfix bugs
identified in easy way. Please, take it in use.

Br,
Iekku

And I guess that if that's the case, we should just focus on N900 CE?

[Meego-handset] Changes in the MeeGo Bugzilla for Handset User Experience

2011-07-12 Thread ext-iekku.huttunen
Hi all,

There's going to be some changes in the MeeGo Bugzilla Handset User
Experience.

Back ground for the changes:
Handset UX isn't fully maintained and currently there's no activities for 1.3.
N900 CE project is only who is maintaining / developing anything to Handset UX
and when bugs are fixed in CE the fixes are also available to add to the MeeGo
release. For more information about the N900CE, please visit:
http://wiki.meego.com/ARM/N900

Since N900 CE is maintaining it makes sense to change the default assignee and
QA contact for a people who are actually working with the
maintenance/development. And since some parts aren't currently maintained, the
bugs are going to be closed as wontfix. By that we don't lose any information
and if someone is willing to make patches/fixes, they can do that, even if bug
is marked as a wontfix. Please, feel free to take a look :)

There's still components without default assignee (question marks in the name
or instead of the name), if you are willing to take the action, contact me.

I'm going to wait 2 workdays to get the feedback before doing the changes, any
comments and ideas are welcome.

Bugzilla components, and the coming changes:

Applets: Doesn't exist in the Handset, all bugs going to be closed as a
wontfix. After that requesting to delete the component.
Audio Player: Is in use at CE, most critical bugs are fixed. Default assignee:
??, QA contact: iekku?
Calendar: CE is using the Tablet UX calendar -- all bugs are going to be
closed as wontfix
Camera Application: in active development, new default assignee: Joonas
Taskinen, new QA contact: Srikanth
Connectivity UI: component itself is useless, since the whole Connectivity UI
is part of Settings (or part of System UI), current bugs are going to be moved
under correct component and after the moving requesting to delete the component.
Contacts: in use and under maintenance Default assignee: tswindell?, QA
contact: Srikanth
Dialer: stays as it is
DuiHome: Name will be changes to MeegoTouchHome. Default assignee mirek, QA
contact: Srikanth
Email client: not in use, every bug is going to be closed as wontfix.
Generic: default assignee will be changed to Marko Saukko
Instant Messaging: Not in use at CE -- all bugs are going to be closed as
wontfix
libseaside: is in use. Default assignee: ??, QA contact: ??
Package Manager UI: stays as it is
Photo Viewer: is in use and maintaining is ongoing. Default assignee:
alexandr.ivanov/ daniil.chuiko?? and Default QA contact Srikanth
Settings: is in use and maintaining is ongoing. Default assignee will be gabor
and Default QA contact Srikanth
SMS: stays as it is
Social Networking: Not in use at CE -- all bugs are going to be closed as
wontfix
Status menu: bugs are going to move to System UI and after that requesting to
delete the component.
Sync UI: Not in use at CE -- all bugs are going to be closed as wontfix
System UI: Is in use, Default QA contact will be changed to Srikanth
Theme: Is in use and Default assignee will be mirek and Default QA Srikanth
UI infrastructure: all bugs are moved to OS Base - libmeegotouch, after
that requesting to delete the component.
UX stability: all bugs are moved to OS Base - libmeegotouch, after that
requesting to delete the component.
Video Player: in use and under maintenance Default assignee: ??, QA contact:
iekku?
Web Browser: stays as it is
Window Management: Default assignee is changed to mirek

About the current bugs:
- All NOT ARM related bugs are going to be directly WONTFIX, cause no
official support / maintenance currently for IA.

Thanks for the heads up and letting a broader audience be informed BEFORE
the action was taken. It's nice to see the process improving.

I'm going to wait 2 workdays to get the feedback before doing the changes,

Also, again thanks for the time to react/respond.

Bugzilla components, and the coming changes:

 Dialer: stays as it is

Correct, and thanks for noticing

libseaside: is in use. Default assignee: ??, QA contact: ??

IIRC, this is still maintained by either Connie or Kaitlin

 About the current bugs:
 - All NOT ARM related bugs are going to be directly WONTFIX, cause no

This is the only item I take some issue with. There is know way for you,
or anyone else, to know if there is or is not still any device that is IA
based still being worked on, or tested against. And, even though there may
not appear to be a official support-ed IA device, the nice thing about
IA devices are that they are often quite similar to each other, so any
current IA bug will most certainly still apply to any future IA device.

So, I kindly request that you do not take the above action, or only do so
on those components that do end up being identified as unmaintained and
unused in N900 CE.

Or, mark them as needing review somehow, and add a comment to them as such,
triggering those that do still have a maintainer (like dialer) to take
action to review them themselves.

Regards,
