My guess is that mpirun tries to setup the connection to all nodes (every cpu core is counted as a single node) and fails. OpenMPI may use different methods for connection to nodes - ssh, rsh, shared memory etc. In your case it looks like trying rsh - this is AFAIK default OpenMPI behaviour. Read
