I'm simulating whispering gallery TE & TM modes on 3D cylindrical discs, and am telling Meep to simulate them assuming rotational symmetry of the structure & fields (up to the angular dependence /m/). I want to calculate the mode volume for the resonant modes of my structure, where I define the

There is already a built-in function which computes the modal volume based on the Purcell-enhancement definition. It works even for cylindrical co-ordinates. However, it is not currently defined in the libctl interface and thus you will need to call it through its SWIG wrapper:

(meep-fields-modal-volume-in-box fields (volume (center ...) (size ...)))
