Sorry to hear of your troubles. I bought a complete exhaust system for
my 78 240D from Rusty a couple of years ago - and last Jan I bought a rear
muffler for the 91 300D which looked to be identical to the original that
came off - and the fit was perfect.
My point being,

far as wide is concerned, I saw a fairly new Lotus Esprit and that's a
surprisingly wide car IMO.

Check carefully the big center rocker bearing. For whatever reason,
ball bearings that rock rather than spin don't seem to last too long.

It actually has TEN radiators and a 100 litre fuel tank. At top speed it
gets 125l/100 km or just 2.1 mpg fuel economy. It'll empty the tank in

I have been trying to replace the rear transmission mount this afternoon
on my '78 240D (123.123.12.050680) - I was able to remove the tranny mount
assy. from under the car but the mount is enclosed by a U-Shaped bracket
which is held in place by a long (~4) allen head bolt
I needed to change the AC blower on my '75 240D. You can save a few hours
by drilling out around the middle bolt that holds it in.. Doesn't make any
difference in the end, except you get to it a lot quicker. Two of us
working on it [the other guy knowing what he was doing] and it took about

because for that one you start by taking out the windshield. then it seems
to get hard. Glad mine kept working.
