I thought the self diagnostic system checks all the circuits and only
illuminates when the headlight are turned on.
Doesn't. The warning only lights when it's _trying_ to turn
on any given light and it won't. (And the ignition is on.)

Don't confuse manifold heating with intake air pre-heat -- a
carbureted engine runs like dog poop stone cold because there is no
significant fuel evaporation, and hence very poor ignition of the

We HAVE a key that was made at one of those local hardware stores, key
places, etc. It will not work in the door locks and is problemmatic in the
ignition switch. That's why I'm trying to help'em find one via VIN a la MB,

Carb icing is caused by a combination of events, starting with
warm humid air at just above freezing. As the air is pulled
through the venturi, the air temperature drops. The air
temperature itself is not an issue but without a heat
