Has anyone done a rebuild on a 116/123 steering box? Does it take lotsa
special tools? We really need some advice!! Thanks Leaking fluid out
the bottom seal, trick shift slows it some, but it needs work! Almost

There is a drilling jig that one must use to keep the holes in the proper
alignment when machining for the inserts on these engines. What makes the
job more difficult is the alloy with the silicon. It makes for a good
wearing surface but it is really tough on drills and taps as well.
Here's a nice write-up with pix for a 126 box:

Let us know how yours turns out.

That was then. Things have changed in so many ways in the past few years.

That would get a USCG pilot permanently grounded. A military aircraft DUI is
frowned upon. The Canadians only laughed about it.

That is an awesome writeup. It looks like it addresses the loose
steering/dead zone kind of feel. I have to deal with that.

This write-up would definitely tempt me to try a 123 box rebuild, but
for my 124 wagon I'm planning to swap in a good used unit.

Well, I guess for the people who work there. I guess they have been
building them all along, but now they will have the star on them.

That hose usually has two different diameters. That is,
it's a molded taper part. Tough to replace aftermarket.
