Computer ate most of the post, however the question is what a factory
produced to comply with safety regulations versus someone with a gas axe
and welder.
The point I tried to make was that MB could not just cut a roof off a
C124 and come up with the A124, same way some one can't chop up a S124
I wrote it that way for a reason...

Pretty common, my 240D is trying to do that too. Thus far I've been almost
keeping up with it. I don't use flimsy old microwave ovens, I use computer
cases! The areas I weld in are stronger than what they replace...
This is a good excuse for you to weld.

My younger son did a quite decent job on our old 95 4Runner. It was
rusted out over the rear wheel arches on both sides and at the lower
edge of the rear quarters going back to the bumper. He cut and welded
pieces of sheet metal into the areas where it was bad. It is not perfect
and it does

That post was from Kevin. I know he is amazing - but welding
without being able to see would be quite a trick.
Kevin, if you _do_ weld - I'd sure like to know how you do it!

Thought we we had major problems with my son-in-law's 300TD a couple of days
ago. He left it idling before work and came out to stalled vehicle. When he
cranked it over it sounded like somebody dumped a box of rocks in the block.
Upon hearing the noise he did not attempt to start it again.

That was yesterday, and they sold out in a few hours. I am on the waiting

Yes, I'm totally blind, 100%. I have pretty good luck with mechanical
things, but I haven't tried soldering or welding. Of course, I couldn't see
the color of the metal to determine if I was welding or just blasting
through something. It's too hot to touch to try to find out where I would
