I was able to get mine out with the rental tool from autozoo/advanced.
Took a 6' breaker bar to pop the weld that some rocket scientist had put
on them. In retrospect it would have been easier to get used LCA from
parts yard.

Not a real answer to your question but I replaced the gears in my 25
year old Craftsman unit and it was fine after that. Not all that
difficult to take it apart and replace the broken bits.

What I use that seems to work is to put pressure on the BJ using
either a puller or a pickle fork, and if a bit of tapping (on the nut)
doesn't do it then I 'pinch' the socket between two BFH's, one of
them as an anvil, and it pops loose. I forget where I learned that
one.
