Hey hey, this is Wilton the badass we're talking about. He just gives that snow
a stern look and it takes off. Doesn't want to get him upset... :)

Yeah that'd work too. If I were only going to do it once or twice I'd carry a
can of fondue fuel (or sterno) but if I were going winter camping for a week
I'd rig up a real preheater.

I was a scout leader for a bit when my elder son participated in scouting.
We had a head leader (troop scouter?) who was quite adept at things

We went sledding one night when it was very cold and he fired the stove

Uhhh, open the valve and light a match? Hang the match under the generator a

the generator helps.

I tried the mittens last night, kept my hands nice and warm during a walk.
The mukluks are just slightly too small for me but Angie loves them, they're
too big for her but fit good with a couple pairs of heavy socks.

I would second the welding cable suggestion. We used to make them out of 4/0
rubber jacketed welding cable, and they would definitely get every last amp
into the receiving end!
Dan who doesn't own jumper cables or a snow shovel

I bought welding cable and good solid end clamps and made my own 25
years ago. Still as good as new.
Rubber covered cable is nice and flexible even when cold and I made them
long enough to reach if the booster vehicle had to park behind the one
that needed to be boosted.

They got 10 inches of snow in Caribou on Sunday. I'm headed up tomorrow and a
little nervous about getting in to camp. I'll have to plow snow for 3/4 mile,
fortunately the Dodge has good tires. I'll pack my snowshoes just in case, I'm
even thinking pretty hard about hauling a snowmobile with me.
I saw a video once where I guy preheated his plane with a Coleman stove. He sat
the stove on the ground with a stovepipe to duct the heat up into the engine. I
can't imagine it would work if it was very cold though, a single burner hiking
stove doesn't have all that much heat output. 5000 BTU at
The 220D was in a heated garage - started right up. The Cessna was sitting
out, and two of us could not pull the prop through! We ducted the output
from a kerosene space heater with a tarp to the front of the cowling and
turned on the gasoline powered Southwind heater in the cabin (where the 5

The S500 is a 95 with conventional ignition. The S420 is a 98 with electronic
ignition.
I find it difficult to believe that the different ignition systems would make
that much difference.

I have to offer a correction: the S420 has the same drivetrain as the S500. I
was misinformed.
That being said, my S420 consistently gets better mileage than the S500, by at
least 1-2 mpg. And the S500 is a coupe versus the S420 being a sedan. I assume

It certainly does.

everything north of gets pounded with lake effect snow, or at least much
heavier snowfall than the rest of the state. Valparaiso, South Bend,

Yes, but in Goshen you’ll get that -13F with a -30F wind chill.
