iMacs are really intolerant of high temperatures. I swapped a hard drive in a 20" C2D iMac I had and the temperatures killed the new drive in a week. Your SSD should be fine. Load the OS to the SSD with the optical media. Apply whatever updates are necessary to get it as current (for that OS)
