I have a 2 owner 79 300 CD located here in AZ that looks as nice with fewer
total miles.. asking price is sub $2,000. No rust or damage history..
interior is "Arizona heat worn" however so needs made new.

I don't think a bad alignment would cause that, but I agree that an
alignment is a good idea when spending that much on tires. The place I use
provides a before and after print-out, see if you can get that and then
you'll know if the alignment was off.

A couple weeks ago I discovered I had a bad tire with a big gash and steel
belts starting to poke through the tread. I put the spare on the car and had
all the tires balanced. I planned to replace the tires sometime this month.
In the interim I drove over 2000 miles on a trip to Mississippi.
Despite all our best efforts to the contrary, some folks seem born with the
innate talent of being able to bend a crowbar in a sand pile..

No. The B2 will cause very bad slip in first you will just be
stuck sitting there till the tow truck comes. Or so the Infamous
B2 piston page says.

When wife got the '73 240D, son inherited the 110 finny which had a slipping
clutch. It could be driven as long as you were very slow and easy starting off
and accellerating, otherwise you weren't going anywhere.
The high school was down a hill, so the first day of school he went roaring
down

Sounds like I should say "Try it you'll like it".
It's not that hard. Takes a couple of seconds to open the hood,
