I am now of a mind to salvage as many lock sets (door/trunk/ignition) as I can
to maybe store away on the parts shelf. The locksmith will still cut a key for
these, all I need is the VIN plate from the door. They will even test the
keys for me.

I never did an ignition lock but I did try to rehab a 126 door lock. I
succeeded but the thing is crimped together and you can never really reassemble
that kind construction properly. I don't know about now, but non-matching

We made it to Narraganset successfully after a quick fuel filter change in
a parking lot in Nanuet NY. Luckily the dealer there had a filter in
stock. It was getting difficult to maintain 60mph up hills. The new
filters did the trick and we did the remaining 200 miles without any
issues. But

In all of my time on this list, there has been no talk of repairing a
recalcitrant lock cylinder.
So, you drive it for five minutes, top it off, go for another five minute
drive, repeat until it no longer needs topping off?
As low as the 606 in question was upon first filling, I wouldn't want to drive
it more than five minutes at low speed, especially on a summer day in South
Carolina.
The dealer techs at the MBCA DIY sessions all have said to simply replace
coolant directly into the radiator, and then drive around to dispel all air
pockets. Check the level and top up as necessary through the overflow tank.

I put in some more yesterday when it was cold, took quite a bit but it
seems to be up in the top hose now, and was running about 80C, which
might be a bit low. I wonder if the thermostat is not working right now
after the high-temp episode. Do they get like that?
