There is also the Vermont title option, but you'd have to pay 7% tax on whatever the state claims the NADA value of the car is in perfect condition.   For a 1980 240D worth $1000 or less, NADA says it  is worth over $5000.   I'm still trying to get a title for the 240D i've had for 15 years.
