That might well relate to how long the trailer is and how far forward
the car is. Given the front of the car with the engine etc, is likely
heavier than the back of the car, one might induce tail wag with the
trailer if the car is loaded backwards.

I find my trailer tows very nicely with the car backwards. The tongue
weight seems about right and it doesn't fishtail at all. When I have
put the engine forward the tongue weight can be much higher, and if I
roll it back further on the trailer it seems to feel like it is going to
fishtail.
Not sure about luck, but I trailered the CL600 home “backwards” on the trailer
and it didn’t seem to have any ill effects. In fact, I was thinking that it
probably helped by keeping the lines of the ML and CL closer together for less
drag.
