Craig and Jaime,
Thanks for the good info and part numbers on this thread. I tried to
change plug wires on the 85 SL and encountered this same system.
Looks like I get to go to the stealership Monday to see what they
want for the little connectors. If they are too high, I will have to
wait

Nice thing about the the V8 cars of this era is that MB offers a set of
pre-made wires. For an 85 380SL the part number is BQ4150029. They're made
from Bosch parts.
Alternately, you can buy all the original parts to build the kits from these

Yeah, they're just too expensive to justify. Its a tool to borrow for
sure! I was just explaining what the factory way to make wires is.
You can probably find aftermarket wires already made from Rusty and
such, but would have to buy the complete set.

Strip off another 3/8-1/2 of just the outer cover.

The terminal doesn't have a threaded spike on it, does it?
If it's threaded, I believe you cut the cable square and screw the end on.
That is the way it used to be back when I messed with M180 gassers.
I think our 230TE 123 was that way also. It is a great system. When
it got to where I could not get bulk spark plug wire reasonably, I'd
just buy a v-8 set of moulded cables and cut the ends off to get the
length I needed.
Ignition leads from this time period use screw on connectors.

When I took the E420 apart to change the power steering pump, one of the
things I ran into was corrosion on the high-tension cable from the left
