I had to replace a bad booster on my '79 300TD. There's a bit of a trick I used 
to get the nut installed under the dash. I'd be happy to share if anyone needs 
help on that.

Vacuum brake boosters are one of the most reliable bits of most cars.
Right up there with differentials.  In fact, I've replaced one noisy diff,
but never a brake booster.
