Chances of an 07 being bad are lower than earlier, I think the "fix" was

Not typically. A branded title is almost always due to an insurance claim of
some sort. I guess if you had a claim where the engine had to be rebuilt
(bottomed out oil pan, for instance) and the insurance company wrote the car
off for it, that could be a reason.
