Unlike the pre-computerized cars, the 2000 MY and later MBs nearly all require the ability to access systems using the Xentry or DAS software and MUX. Sure, you can fix some things, but get much past 2003 or so and without it you're pretty much left swinging in the wind. As for buying a car

That sounds way way way too expensive. It's likely going to need oil cooler seals which is a MAJOR job, which I am going to need to do on the wife's r320 which is the same engine. That engine is OK but is WAY more difficult to work on than the old 61x or 60x engines. You will certainly need the
