As a point of reference, I purchased a rusty but highly driveable, titled, and street-legal 1983 turbodiesel wagon for $1400 for the express purpose of supplying a drive train transplant into a rust-free 1983 300TD with a blown engine. I drove the donor car down from Baltimore without incident, then sold it to the crusher for $150 after stripping it, including the drive train plus some very usable body (bumpers and mirrors, e.g.) and cosmetically fine interior parts. I still have some lefet over palomino interior door and hatch panels, so if anyone is interested contact me on or off list.
