Danger! Over tightening the adjustment on the box will cause sticking and
rapid wear!
The box should NOT have required adjustment after rebuilding. Setting it
properly is part of the refurb. It's possible that the shop you went to
doesn't understand that on MB steering assemblies, there's
Sounds right. I don't remember the details either, but these cars are supposed
to have a small amount of free play in the steering.

my 82 CD has always had a sticking point when I turn backing up & then turn
the wheel in the other direction & go forward. not sure if I was told "they
all do that" or not.

Seems like the sticking can be caused if the adjustment nut is tightened too
much. I seem to remember that but don’t hold me to it.

I thank everyone who replied to my request. I had a local garage do the
alignment;, he checked with the company that rebuilds these units that was
supplied to me from one of you. He was able to get the specs and did the
alignment. I am happy to have it able to drive, but I am not 100% happy
