The old fashioned way to tighten an alt is to put an prybar/crowbar between the block and the front of the alt. Tension belt with the bar, and lock down the alt bracket with the other hand. I have done this on MBs with buggered adjuster devices. All the old Deetriot iron was adjusted this

i like my local carquest guy. he's an old time parts guy and can get lots of nice stuff fast and cheap. his store supplies many of the shops on the main drag between stone mountain and snellville and he is the only guy in teh area i can deal with. the big chains aer completely lost. i walked
