Crapbox is right, it's an inferior modern version of the old Chevy
Sprint/Suzuki Swift/Geo Metro design, which was actually a pretty good
car for its price.
GM crows about 34mpg in the Aveo which is a tiny crapbox, crazy.

I computed the mileage on my 300D (OM 617) the other day and was
surprised to find that I was getting 26 MPG in-town. That's more than I
remember -- I don't actually compute the mileage very often. I'm
planning to keep a closer eye on it to see if that was just an anomaly.

No, contact patch is pretty much normal as far as I can tell -- no
abnormal wear in 1 miles, good traction, etc. Max inflation
pressure is 51 psi.
My brother though the tires on his car were low -- but they were 32
psi, just like the label says. However, they are 46 psi max
inflation

45 psi?!? You might as well put motorcycle tires on it for all the
contact patch you're getting there!
Alex Chamberlain
124s galore
Hehe, I just got 34.1 on the last tank (Shell, with a good tire
instead of a half flat one).
I think the Sumitomo tires at 45 psi help quite a bit, the old on
only got 32 or so.
I do drive carefully, especially after getting hit.
My brother's SDL gets 29 or so on the highway. Nice to make o
Im sorry, I meant 30, as he said. I dont see how he gets 30, considering
fueleconomy.gov rates them at 18 city 22 highway. That is about exacly
what I get with mine.

Our SDL gets a pretty reliable 27, has gotten 30-31 a time or two.
The 190D used to get 42 on the highway, now it's 39. May need to
dial in the IP timing, since removing that for a re-sealing was

U -- he said 30, not 40. However, like Alex, since my SDL only
ogt 26, I wonder how the 140 does it.
The 124 '90 and '92 300Ds DO get an honest 30 on my commute, and at
least 33 on the road.

Ditto. I can't even get 30 mpg out of my '87 (and nobody else can
except Peter S.), and the 140 has a bigger engine and weighs half a
ton more.

how do you get 40mpg from your 140? I have never got close to that with
mine, I dont see how it can be done unless you drive 45mph everywhere or
something.

The Government is demanding 30 MPG and the car makers are proud of
their cars which make it there.
Heck My 1992 W-140 S350/300SD has been giving me 30 MPG since I
bought it years ago.
What I would like to see is a Diesel-Electric "S" Class (or any
other class for that matter).
