Yes, before the 140 the only S class diesels were in the US, and
possibly Japan maybe. Afterwards the US does not get any of the cool S
class diesels.

offered outside North America was the W140.

300D but nobody got the turbo 617 AND a manual trans...

I think you are wrong. I remember that a close read of the 1985 Technical
Data Book showed that in ROW, one could purchase a 123.193 with a manual
transmission, unlike the USofA. So not only did the ROW get the turbo,
they could also get a manual transmission.

123 cars in Europe with turbo or were they all turbo?

Correct, sort of.
The basic EPC just shows when a part is NLA and not that it has been
superseded. The "real" EPC shows the original part number and the supersessions
(sp?)
