Thanks but all the items you mention are newish too. I guess one needs to
remove the spring and flop it all around to check play everywhere.

I replaced these on a 123 and a 126, no problems with them but the cars
did not get a lot of miles after the R&R, so can't share any experience
in that regard.
You might want to check all the suspension bits on that side, ball
joints, control arms, tie rods.

OE vs aftermarket on the front guide rod bushings where they attach to body?
I put the gold ones in on the teailing ends about seven years ago and the
right one failed after maybe two years with it rumbling in the floorboard
on rough pavement. Probably less than 20k miles on it before it went.
