Good idea but it doesnt seem to matter if I shift it or not. It will stop
doing it spontaneously whether I shift or not.

a cold start.

Funky kickdown switch under the throttle pedal. They tend to accumulate a lot
of detritus.

So it wasnt the motor limping, it was the transmission refusing to upshift
out of granny gear. It does it for awhile, then it decides to not do it for
awhile. In the meantime you are doing 20mph at 4500rpm in traffic. It works
great - when it decides to work. Shifts are very firm. Always goes into
