old watchmakers have thousands of movements and parts plus tons of it shows up on ebay. yes, it will likely require service. it's what i would do to solve this problem. first i'd find someone who can fix anything to declared it unfixable. then i'd replace the movement with another of the same

Probably worth a couple grand at the moment, they didn't cheat on the gold in those cases. I have a couple working Veri-Thin 12S watches from the 30's or 40's that are very nice and keep excellent time. I also have a nice Bulova 12S 12 jewel watch that needs a new balance staff --
