I say get a $35 HID kit and slap it in. I have had zero problems with the 6 or so kits I've bought for myself and friends, and it sure beats changing bulbs every few months! You'll want a 6000K color temp range to mimic the "white but not blue" light if an over-watt halogen. Walt On May 10, 2012

I say the headlight circuit is under-built. Like Jim said, the voltage drop is ridiculous on high beam. If properly designed there would not be so much drop. Seems a high load on small wires would be bad, right? So adding a relay should help. No matter how much you spend on bulbs of this type

Indeed, MB does know about those sorts of things, which is why the circuits are designed for the factory load. When you increase the wattage of the bulb, you need to increase the wiring to handle it. Hence the relay (to handle the higher switching loads) and new larger wires. All a moot point, unle

As I found on my wife's 450 SL, the voltage drop in the wiring harness was 1.2V on high beams. That's roughly 10%, which is significant. After the relay job the voltage drop was only 0.3V, even with 400W of high beam bulbs. Ignoring the increased wattage, the voltage change alone netted about a
